Cake pops are a delicious, individualised treat that has recently become all the rage. Cake pops are an incredibly popular dessert, especially among kids and young adults.
Brief History and Origin
Cake pops originated in the United States in the early 2000s when celebrity baker Angie Dudley created them for a bake sale. The concept was simple: instead of baking a traditional layer cake and trying to slice it into individual pieces, she took crumbled pieces of cake, mixed them with frosting or other binding ingredients, formed them into balls on a stick, dipped them in melted chocolate or candy coating, and then decorated them with sprinkles or other decorations. She named her creation “cake pops” – a nod to the common American lollipop treat.
Since its inception in 2008, cake pops have become one of the most popular desserts worldwide. Their popularity has been largely attributed to their portability – they can be held in your hand while eating – and their versatility – they can be created with virtually any flavor combinations imaginable. Additionally, they are easy to make and require minimal baking experience or equipment; as such, they are often seen at home parties or bake sales.
