Brief History and Origin
The origins of tiramisu are still being determined. But, it is believed to have been created in the late 1960s or early 1970s in the Veneto region of Italy. The original recipe was simple and included eggs, sugar, marsala wine, espresso coffee, mascarpone cheese, and savoiardi biscuits. Over time more ingredients were added, such as liqueurs, chocolate shavings or syrup, nuts, or fruits, making it even more delicious! Tiramisu became famous throughout Italy during the 1980s and has become one of the most beloved desserts worldwide!

Ingredients
- 400ml heavy cream
- 250g mascarpone cheese
- 75ml marsala
- 5 tbsp. white sugar
- 2 tbsp. coffee granules a
- 300ml boiling water
- 175g sponge fingers
- 2tsp. cocoa powder
- 25g dark chocolate
Instructions
- In a large bowl, add sugar, marsala, mascarpone, and heavy cream, and whisk using a hand whisk until mascarpone and cream are thoroughly mixed and have the smoothness of whipped cream.
- Make coffee from coffee granules and boiling water, and pour it into a shallow dish. Add sponge fingers to the coffee and leave for a few seconds while turning until they nicely soak the coffee, avoid oversoaking, or they will become soggy.
- Arrange half of the coffee-soaked sponge fingers in a dish and make a layer of half of the creamy mixture on top. Grate the dark chocolate and sprinkle over the creamy mixture.
- Make another layer of remaining soaked sponge fingers, followed by a layer of the creamy mixture. Cover the tiramisu and place it in the refrigerator for a night.
- When ready to serve, sprinkle grated dark chocolate and dust cocoa powder on top.
