Quiche is a savory pastry dish enjoyed for centuries worldwide due to its versatility and delicious flavor combinations. It can be made with various fillings such as eggs, cheese, vegetables, or meat, making it perfect for any occasion, from breakfast to dinner!
Brief History and Origin
“quiche” comes from the Germanic word “kuchen,” which means cake. France first recorded the quiche in the 14th century as a savory tart. The earliest known recipe for quiche appeared in a French cookbook from 1558, including a filling of egg yolks and heavy cream.
During the 17th century, quiche began to spread throughout Europe, and by the 19th century, it had become popular in England and Germany. In England, quiche was served as an appetizer or light meal, while in Germany, it was served as an after-dinner dessert.
