Scone is a type of biscuit, originating from Scotland, that is made with butter and flour. Its texture is soft and crumbly, and its flavor is mildly sweet. Many people have enjoyed it for centuries, and its popularity has grown even more in recent years.
Brief History and Origin
The origin of scones dates back to the early 16th century in Scotland. The word “scone” comes from the Dutch word “schoonbrot,” which means beautiful bread. The traditional scone was a round cake made with oats, barley, or wheat flour and baked on a griddle or in an oven. In the 17th century, scones were brought to England, typically served with clotted cream and jam as part of a light meal or snack.
