Molten Lava Cake is an indulgent treat that continues to delight people worldwide! Its unique texture and flavour have made it one of the most popular desserts in recent years.
Brief History and Origin
The origins of Molten Lava Cake can be traced back to 1982 when French chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten created the dish for his restaurant in New York City. He was inspired by the traditional French chocolate fondant he had enjoyed as a child. He created a version that incorporated warm chocolate with a runny centre. The result was an immediate hit with customers, who loved its unique texture and flavour.

- Cooking Time: 20 mins
- Total time: 35 mins
- Servings: 6
Ingredients
- 100g unsalted butter
- 100g dark chocolate, chopped
- 150g sugar
- 3 eggs
- ½ tsp vanilla extract
- 50g all-purpose flour
- Single cream to serve
Instructions
- Prepare the oven and preheat it to 180 degrees C. Also, prepare 6 basin wells by lightly greasing them with butter, then arrange them on the baking tray.
- Place a bowl in a pan filled with water over medium heat. Add chocolate and butter to the bowl, and stir continuously until consistent and smooth. Remove from heat and leave for 15 minutes until slightly cool.
- Then add sugar and whisk using an electric hand mixer. Add an egg and whisk until fully incorporated; add the remaining eggs in the same manner, add vanilla and flour, and continue whisking until everything is well combined.
- Divide equally; transfer the batter to the prepared basin wells and place in the oven. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes or until the top of the cake is firm, but the middle is still squidgy.
- When ready, take out of the oven and remove from the basin well using a knife on the eggs, transfer to the serving plates and serve hot with single cream.
